IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Albert Daniel
Hammons Jr.
October 25, 1949 – February 3, 2026
Albert D. Hammons Jr. was born October 25, 1949, in Kansas City, KS, to Albert D. Hammons Sr. and Roberta J. (Crowder) Lett.
Albert graduated from Sumner High School in Kansas City, KS, in 1967.
On June 11, 1969, Al was drafted into the U.S. Army at Union Station, where he became an Army medic in the 101st Airborne Division, serving in the Vietnam War on December 5, 1969. Albert returned home in 1971 after receiving various medals and honors.
Albert worked at General Motors Corp while attending Rockhurst College, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. In 1990, General Motors relocated Al to several different cities in the state of Michigan. Ultimately, Al retired from GM Headquarters in Detroit, MI, after 32 years of service in Payroll.
In his early years, Al belonged to the Turner House Boys Club, where he met his lifetime friends of over 50 years: Ronald “Hockey” Harland, Oscar Murphy, Donald Smith, and Hassan El-Amin. Al was good at various sports and even won numerous awards in ping-pong and shooting pool. However, he was well known for his “sweet jumper” in basketball. He also belonged to several card groups around the city, playing bid whist. Most of all, what he absolutely loved to do was “two-step.”
Al was a die-hard #1 KC Chiefs fan. He’d often go around visiting different houses to watch the game; however, it depended on who was cooking the best and most food that day for him to determine whether he’d be joining your household for the game or not.
In 1992, Al married his love and friend, Charlotta LaMaster, of 25 years. Of that union, there were two children, NaCole LaMaster and Marcus Hammons. Al was a devoted father and a great provider. He enjoyed being with his granddaughter, LaKesha LaMaster-Stephens, and his two great-granddaughters, LaKesha and LaKeyah Wright.
Al gave his life to Christ at an early age. Al was a member of Roswell Church of Christ, where he willingly served communion and any other tasks that were asked of him.
“Skeet” was the true definition of an “OG.” He gave and poured so much wisdom and knowledge into everyone he met, as he never met a stranger. He was sponsored by Neon Frazier, and he also sponsored the CA Minnesota Avenue Group and assisted several other AA groups. Skeet was a blessing to be around. He was always full of jokes, laughter, and love. His kindness was not just a passing action but a way of life that created a lasting impact on the lives of others.
Albert Daniel Hammons Jr., 76, received his heavenly wings on February 3, 2026, with his loving family by his side. Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Albert D. Hammons Sr. and Roberta J. (Crowder) Lett; his son, Michael Curry (Martha); his brother, Dwight Hammons; his great-grandmother, Grace Hinton; his great-aunt, Willita “Billye” Cole; his grandmother, Alice Tennel; his cousin/dad, Ozell Hawkins; his aunt, JoAnn Crowder; his aunt, Norma “Oodie” Crowder; his uncle, Thomas E. Crowder III; and his cousin, Jeri Sue Looney.
Albert’s extraordinary life will forever be cherished by his children; his daughter, Nacole LaMaster; his son, Marcus Hammons; his granddaughter, LaKesha LaMaster-Stephens; his great-granddaughters, LaKesha and LaKeyah Wright; his brother, Nazeeh Al-Ugdah (Sharon); his sister-in-law, Johnie Hammons; his brother, Allen (Susan) Hammons; Al’s special friends for over 50 years, Maceo Jones, Ronald Harland, Hassan El-Amin, Larry Putman, and Staten Heard; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
