Alfred Whitaker was born on January 20, 1971, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Mary U. Whitaker and Alfred G. Armstrong. He was raised in Kansas City, Missouri, where he spent much of his life. Alfred was preceded in death by his grandmother, Pearl Whitaker; his father, Alfred George Armstrong; and his grandfather, Reverend Dave Whitaker. At a young age, Alfred gave his life to God at Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, around the age of nine or ten.

As a teenager, Alfred attended Van Horn High School, where he played football as a running back for the Falcons. In the ninth grade, he was selected to play junior varsity football and later achieved the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout. During his youth, Alfred shared many memorable moments with his family. One especially cherished memory was a fun-filled day he spent attending a Snoop Dogg concert with his oldest brother, Leonard Whitaker, a moment that remains unforgettable. His mother often reflected on Alfred’s encouraging spirit and how he consistently uplifted others and supported them in their responsibilities.

Alfred was a dedicated and hardworking man. He served for several years as a Safety and Security Officer at the Midland Theatre. He also worked as the Head of Security at Pipeline Productions, a Lead Cashier at Linwood Wine & Spirits, and formerly at Good Day Farm Dispensary, among other positions throughout his career. Alfred, affectionately known as “Al,” worked faithfully until God called him home.

On February 14, 2000, Alfred was united in Holy Matrimony to Chanda Harrelson. Before this union, he was blessed with two daughters, who brought him great joy. Alfred enjoyed music, traveling with his family, fishing, camping, playing games on his phone, and good food. His favorites were fried chicken and Mountain Dew. He was also a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. Above all, Alfred was deeply committed to his family. He was known as a protector and a man on whom others could always depend.

Alfred leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Chanda Whitaker of Odessa, Missouri; his two daughters, Alique Whitaker of Kansas City, Missouri, and Raquel Whitaker of Houston, Texas; and three grandchildren, Zemirah Ramsey and Zaire Ramsey of Kansas City, Missouri, and Sawyer Whitaker of Houston, Texas.

He is also survived by his mother, Mary Whitaker of Kansas City, Missouri; three siblings, brother Leonard Whitaker of Kansas City, Missouri; sister Charlotte Whitaker of Houston, Texas; and Urania Whitaker of Kansas City, Missouri; four nephews, adopted Anthony Silver and Terrance Allen of Kansas City, Missouri, adopted Jerry Harrelson, aka BJ, and Time Cross of Odessa, MO; four nieces, adopted Brenda Nguyen, Imani Issah, Da’Janae Moreland of Kansas City, Missouri, and adopted Sedonia Whitaker of Houston, Texas; along with a host of cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

A service will be held Friday, January 30, 2026, at Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC, 2800 E. 18th St., Kansas City, MO 64127. The visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., and the service will follow at 3:00 p.m.
