Anton Frederick "Fred" Wendeln

Anton Frederick "Fred" Wendeln died on February 13, 2023 at the age of 81 at St. Lukes Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo. Fred was born on March 9, 1941 in Toldeo, Ohio. He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Midland, MI and he was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Chanute, KS.

He graduated from Chanute High School and moved to Kansas City where he lived for the rest of his life. Fred worked as a clerk typist at Yellow Truck Lines, owned a ice cream truck business and then became a landlord. Fred enjoyed taking care of the apartments with his close friend and apartment manager, Mike Holt, and was well  respected by his tenants. He continued managing the apartments until his death.

Fred was preceeded in death by his parents Suzanne and O.B. Wendeln and his brother, Kelly Wendeln.

Fred is surivived by two sisters, Mary Lou Priebe, Sue Anne Nack, and brother, David Wendeln; five nieces,  Wendy Mumme, Lori Sitton, Janet Richards, Mary Clark , Sarah Thieme; and a nephew, Walter Priebe. Fred is also survived by his friend Mike Holt, and Mike's wife and children.

The Family would like to thank the staff at the University of Kansas Hospital and St. Lukes Hospice House for the excellent care and compassion that Fred received in his last days. A graveside burial service will be held in Chanute, Kansas on March 11, 2023 at 10:30 am at the Memorial Park Cemetery 1002 E 14th st. Chanute, KS.  Memorial donations can be sent to Zion Lutheran in Chanute, KS.
