Barry Norman Jurgenson

Barry Norman Jurgenson, 70, of Kearney, Missouri, peacefully passed from this life into glory on September 16, 2023.                  Barry, the son of Norman and Ruth (Brunken) Jurgenson, was born October 6, 1952, in Hawarden, Iowa. He graduated from LeMars Community High School in 1970 and was drafted into the United States Army in 1972. After proudly serving his country for two years, Barry worked at Sioux Tools until 1998. He later worked at Culligan, Pella, and Staples before starting a painting business with his brother, Roger. Barry retired in 2019.

Barry married Patricia Mae Johnson August 23, 1975. Struble, Iowa, was home for 36 years of their marriage; there, he served as a councilman. Barry and Pat were blessed with four children. He cherished and delighted in his children and grandchildren.

Barry was baptized into Christ in 1999, worshipping at the Third Street church of Christ and, later, the Sioux Center church of Christ. He had a heart for helping people and it was his constant prayer to recognize the needs of others. In 2019, Barry and Pat moved to Kearney, Missouri, and became active members of the Liberty church of Christ, where he served as a benevolence deacon.

Barry was a man of few words but had a quick wit and loved to make people smile. An avid Hawkeye fan, he enjoyed watching Iowa’s football and basketball games. He proudly wore black and gold anywhere and everywhere. Barry loved muscle cars—Chevy muscle cars—particularly the ‘72 Nova and the Corvettes he owned. He used his creativity in large and small home improvement projects as well as woodworking.

Left to cherish Barry’s memory are his wife, Pat; their children: Jessica (Jeff) Kowalke, Tim (Kate) Jurgenson, and Carl (Heather) Jurgenson; grandchildren: Collin Shafer, Caleb Shafer, Alysse Kowalke, Cooper Jurgenson, Konnor Kowalke, and Paige Jurgenson; siblings: Dave (Judy) Jurgenson, Roger Jurgenson, Pat (Larry) Lewis, Marla Young, many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death are his daughter, Jill Jurgenson; his parents, Norman and Ruth Jurgenson; his mother-in-law, Edith Johnson; his brother-in-law, Denny Young.

Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 7. 9:30am visitation, 10:30am service at Liberty church of Christ, 1401 Glenn Hendren Dr, Liberty, MO 64068
