Bernadette Marcia Hughes

Bernadette “BD” was born July 20, 1967, in Kansas City, Missouri to Joyce E. Hughes and Archie Williams.

BD was a proud knight and graduate of Southeast High School. She enjoyed many things in life. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, attend holiday gatherings, bargain shop, bake desserts, watch crime television, and have a night of fun at the casino. She was always ready for a good phone chat and especially looked forward to conversations with her best-friend Marshanette.

Bernadette had a mother’s heart—not just for her children and grandchildren, but for all her family and everyone blessed to know her. Whether you needed a place to rest, a meal, or someone to listen, her arms and home were always open. Each person she encountered in life has a story of gratitude or a fond memory about BD that is sure to produce a smile.

Bernadette departed this life on June 5, 2025. She was preceded in death by her grandmother Mattie Hughes and her father Archie Williams.

She leaves to cherish her memory: mother, Joyce Hughes; children, Sharde Hughes, Justin Hughes, and Tyrece Hughes; grandchildren, Nevaeh Hughes, Brooklynn Hughes, Londynn Hughes, Christian Hammond, and Jaymonni Hughes; siblings, Joshua Brantley, Shawn Brantley, Faye Hearron, Ronald Hearron (Betty), Ronell Hearron, Lisa Rinehart (Isaac), and Marquetta Hughes; and a host of extended siblings, nephews, nieces, cousins, uncles, aunts, other relatives, and friends.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 21st, 2025, at Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC, 2800 E. 18th St. Kansas City, MO, 64127. The visitation will begin at 10:00am, the service will follow at 11:00am.
