“Let all that you do be done in love.” — 1 Corinthians 16:14

Bernicer Fleming, 57, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026.

Born on January 13, 1969, in Lawrence, Kansas, Bernicer was the beloved daughter of John Franklin Fleming and Bennie Mae Harris. She was raised in faith and family — foundations that shaped the strong and remarkable woman she became.

A proud graduate of Lawrence High School, Bernicer worked various jobs before becoming disabled early in life. Though her health limited her career path, it never diminished her spirit. She remained resilient, independent, and firm in her convictions. Her personal motto was, “I am grown. I will do what I want to do, I’m Different,” and she lived those words with confidence and authenticity.

Bernicer was known for speaking her mind. She said what she meant and meant what she said. She was never at a loss for words. With her serious expression and direct manner, she left little room for guessing how she felt. If she did not care for someone/something, she did not pretend otherwise — but she would always treat others with respect and “keep it moving.” There was no pretense, no faking — only honesty.

Yet, behind that serious look was a heart of gold. Bernicer possessed deep kindness, humor, dedication, unwavering faith, and an abiding love for her family. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her bold spirit, and her steadfast devotion to those she loved.

She was a devoted mother to Marcus Holman, Jazlynn Fleming, Jermel Fleming, and Clark Harris. Her greatest pride and joy were her twelve grandchildren, who brought immeasurable happiness to her life.

She leaves to cherish her memory her siblings: Carrie Fleming-Duran and Jessie Fleming of Vaden, Mississippi; John Fleming Jr. of Louisiana; Aretha Gomiller of Lawrence, Kansas; Steven Harris of San Diego, California; Anthony Harris of Kansas City, Missouri; and Darryl Vann of Lawrence, Kansas.

She also leaves behind her cherished brother-in-law and personal attorney, Antonio Shepherd. She loved him dearly and was so proud of the man he was. Whether she needed advice, reassurance, or an intellectual conversation, he was always just a phone call away. Their special bond brought her great comfort and joy, and the love they shared will live on in his heart and in the hearts of those who knew them.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Terry Fleming, and her stepfather, Steven Harris Sr.

Bernicer enjoyed gardening, spending time outdoors, fishing, and thrift store shopping. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures and treasured time with her family. Her strong Christian faith guided her throughout her life.

Though she has departed from this earthly life, her legacy of honesty, strength, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held, Saturday, March 07, 2026, at Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC , 2800 E. 18th St. Kansas City, MO 75127 at 3:00pm. There will be no visitation prior to the services.
