Betty Jean Whitmill, affectionately known as “Betty Boo,” was born on August 28, 1962, to the union of Edward and Carolyn Whitmill in Kansas City, Missouri. Betty accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Dunbar Elementary School and later graduated from East High School in Kansas City, Missouri. After high school, she continued her education at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. Betty had a love for sewing and a gift for putting together an outfit—sometimes just hours before stepping out for an evening on the town. She also loved playing cards and was fiercely competitive, occasionally bending the rules to make sure she came out on top! LOL. Trouble was one of her absolute favorite board games. More than anything, Betty loved having a house full of family and friends. Her home was truly “Big Momma’s House,” a place where nieces, nephews, their friends, and anyone else who came through the door could feel at home. Betty had a special way of making people feel welcomed, loved, and cared for. Her presence left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Betty departed this earthly life on August 7, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents; five siblings, Lloyd, Hosia, Deborah, James, and Anthony; and her bonus son, Terry. She leaves to cherish her memory her two sons, Matthew and Marcus Whitmill; six siblings, Mary Whitmill, Howard Fields, Joe Whitmill, Gloria Whitmill, Ernestine Whitmill, and Otis Robinson; her bonus grandchildren, Terri Whitmill, Akyra Whitmill, Atterius Whitmill, Terrin Whitmill, Terry Whitmill Jr., and Isabella Whitmill; her loyal and devoted friend, Denise Newman; her special niece Erica Williams, nephew Brandon Canady and a host of other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. And last, but certainly not least, there was Little Ms. Sollara. Their bond was one of a kind. Sollara Canady was so many things to her Aunt Betty—her best friend, her “road dawg,” her counselor and advisor, and even her doctor and nurse. Through it all, Sollara Canady lovingly stood by her side. Sollara was, in every sense of the word, her Aunt Betty’s Keeper. Betty’s love, laughter, generosity, and welcoming spirit will live on in the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services LLC, 2800 East 18th Street, KCMO 64127. There will not be a visitation. The Memorial Service will begin promptly at 3:00 p.m.
