Billie Jean
Davis
November 8, 1952 – April 19, 2026
Billie Jean Davis was born on the 8th day of November, 1952, in Bad Cannstatt, Germany, to her parents Grace Elizabeth Cummins and William Cummins. Soon after she came into the world, the family moved back to the United States after her father’s military term had ended in the mid-1950’s, into their quaint family home on Gudgell Rd. in Independence, Missouri, which the family spent years working together to refine and renovate.
Billie was a devoted follower and lover of Jesus Christ for the entirety of her life. In her final days on earth, she gently reminded her family that although she wasn’t ready to leave them behind, she was not scared to pass, because “she has Jesus.”
Billie attended Hanthorn Elementary, located right behind her childhood home in Independence, Missouri, walking there from her backyard each day. She graduated from Truman High School in 1971. Shortly after she earned her diploma, Billie began building a beautiful family and cultivating a home alongside her soulmate, Paul Levi Davis Sr., in 1972. They were married and moved in together in Mayview, Missouri within the first year of meeting each other, later moving to Lexington and nurturing their three children on their farmstead; Brandie, Paula, and Paul Levi Jr.
Paul Sr. preceded Billie in death in 1977. Billie loved Paul more than anything in the world, and they never got the lifetime together that they deserved. She made him abundantly proud as he looked on from heaven every single day at her raising their three children on her own, with all the strength, courage, and fortitude within her. Billie devoted her adult life to ensuring her children were taken care of, had what they needed, and had fun as a family as much as possible. She was the matriarch of the family, and her genuine love and infectious laugh touched everyone she came into contact with.
Billie retired from her civilian clerical/administrative role within the U.S. Army in her late 50’s, and spent her years after retirement surrounded by the family and friends who loved her most, going on adventures big and small. She loved sewing, knitting and creating beautiful things, gardening, enjoying her many dogs, cooking and canning, and shopping. She spent every single Thursday for over a decade with her son and granddaughters. She enjoyed meals and church on Sundays with her best friend, Janet Hunsucker. She would spend afternoons taking her mother all over town, and later in life after her mother passed, she’d spent afternoons shopping with her sister(s). Billie adored being “out and about”, and was always known for her ability to be out on the town all day long, hitting different thrift stores, garage sales, eating at her favorite restaurants (specifically The Westport Flea Market, Mr. Gyro’s Greek Restaurant, Krispy Kreme, and Golden Corral, to name a few of her favorites). Billie had more energy than anyone else that may have been running around with her shopping, she could go all day long, even outrunning her son Paul throughout his childhood.
Billie was social and would talk to anyone, anywhere. She was ornery and a jokester, she could take a joke but definitely deliver one just as well. Her sense of humor was one of a kind. She was kind and inquisitive, and would give items away without a second thought if she had something you said you liked. Or, she’d get you one just like it of your own and surprise you with it. Billie had an innate intuition and could feel things deeply and from a distance. She was a true Scorpio girl to her core, and loved affection. She was always thinking about others. Billie loved Christmas and keeping Christmas lights up year round. She loved her Christian talk radio and Cowboy Western movies. She loved Boston Terriers and had many in her later years. She leaves behind Blaze and Scarlett, her two beloved babies.
Billie gave her all to her family, and they did the same for her as she aged. She loved them unconditionally. She had a heart of gold, and would forgive relentlessly and without hesitation. She always tried so hard to be the woman she thought God wanted her to be, and she was successful. She knows that now, and enjoys peace in heaven without an inkling of pain in her body. When she did things for others, it was with no expectation for anything in return. Her heart and soul were as pure as summer days are long.
Billie lost her brother, William Cummins Jr., in March of this year, and now joins him, her parents, and the love of her life in heaven. Billie leaves behind the following loved ones to cherish the beloved memories of her: Her son, Paul Levi Davis Jr., and her two granddaughters Nicole Marie Davis (Chad French and great granddaughter Monroe French) and Jasmine Kay Davis (Andrew Orazco). Her oldest daughter, Brandie Dawn Warehime (Steven Warehime), and her two grandsons Jeffrey Anthony Davis (Michelle Davis and great granddaughter Maddie Davis), and William Levi Davis. Her youngest daughter Paula Pickel (Jerome Pickel, and grandchildren Fenix Jean Peters, Donovan Peters, and Tobias Pickel); Her two older sisters, Janet Pietsmeyer and Janice Kampe; Her sister-in-law, Samara Cummins; And her best friend, Janet Hunsucker. A host of other family, friends, nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones from all over will miss Billie and her contagious loving spirit forever more.
