Bobbie Jean McCray

Bobbie Jean McCray was born on February 15, 1942 to Abler (A.D.) Griffin and Margaret Griffin. She attended North High in Wichita. Bobbie spent her formative years in Muskogee, Oklahoma and then moved to Wichita, Kansas with family. She moved to Kansas City in 1961 and married Leodis McCray Sr. in 1964. To this union, five children were born: Timothy, Tammy,
Valerie,Leodis Jr., and Robin.

Bobbie devoted her life to raising her family and three grandsons. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital for 14 years in the Housekeeping Department. In 1988, she moved to St. Joseph Hospital after St. Mary’s closed and retired
from there in 2006.

Bobbie loved the Lord and was initially a member of Community M.B. Church. While there, she was an usher and sang in the choir. Over the last 9 years, she has been a member of the Greenwood M.B.Church where she was a current member of the Mothers’ Board. She loved her church family. Bobbie went home to be with the Lord on October 14,2023 surrounded by her family.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leodis McCray Sr., her son Leodis McCray, Jr, and her daughter Valerie McCray as well as her grandson Jayvon McCray, and a sister Becky Kittrell and stepfather Earl Glover. Also three brothers, James Griffin, Thomas Glover, and Thurman Hughes.

Bobbie leaves behind one son, Timothy (Stacy) McCray, two daughters, Tammy Wright and Robin McCray, three grandsons that she raised, Leodis (Hannah) McCray III, LaRoc McCray, and LaJuan McCray, five sisters; Queen (Michael) Gillum, Ruby Harris, Linda Yates, Tracey Glover, and LaWanda (David) Glover, two Brothers; Sherman (Sandra) Hughes and Eddie Glover, 9 additioal
grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and additional family and friends who loved her.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday October 28, 2023, visitation will be held from 9 A.M. - 10 A.M. with services beginning at 10 A.M. at Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church  3501 E. Meyer Blvd KCMO 64132.

Internment : Brooking Cemetery
