Bruce Lane Henson, 66, of Independence, Missouri, passed away on July 24, 2026. He was born on October 27, 1959, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Gene and Frances Henson.Bruce spent much of his career in transportation and logistics, where he was known as a dedicated manager with an unwavering work ethic. He often said he would “work until the day I die,” and those who knew him understood he meant it.Bruce embraced the outdoors and the simple pleasures in life. He enjoyed fishing, quail and pheasant hunting, golfing, shooting pool with friends that he referred to as The Long Riders, camping, and boating—especially when it meant spending time at the lake with a cold beer in hand. He also had a passion for cooking and was known for his flair in the kitchen; taking pride in preparing meals as much as he enjoyed sharing them.Bruce was known for his sense of dry, dark humor, and unmistakable sarcasm. He had a way of teasing people that kept conversations entertaining and rarely missed an opportunity to make someone laugh—or roll their eyes. He cherished time spent with close friends but also found peace in solitude, living life on his own terms and always living authentically, unapologetically himself. He is survived by his daughter, Allison Sharp (née Henson) of Liberty, Missouri; his grandchildren, Sylas, Parker, Claire, and Noah; his mother, Frances Henson of St. Joseph, Missouri; his sisters, Stacie Jackson (Scott) and Natalie Henson (Shannon Rauch); along with nieces, cousins, extended family members, and lifelong friends.Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Gene Henson, former Fire Chief of St. Joseph, Missouri and his nephew Aaron Joel (AJ) Adams of St. Joseph, Missouri. In place of flowers, the family asks to instead honor Bruce’s life by grabbing a fishing pole to cast a line, head to the lake, cook a good meal, enjoy a cold beer, and don’t be afraid to laugh. He knew life wasn’t perfect, but he believed it was meant to be lived.
