Carl Dewayne
Anthony Thompson Sr.
October 10, 1969 – March 28, 2026
Carl Dewayne Anthony Thompson was born on October 10, 1969, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Carletta Thompson and Ronald F. Wallace.
Carl accepted Christ at an early age and attended Grace Spiritual Temple under the leadership of Bishop Charles N. Slayton. During his time there, he faithfully served as an altar boy and often expressed how much he loved the church choir.
He received his education through the Kansas City, Missouri School District, attending Wendell Phillips Elementary School and graduated from Paseo High School in 1988.
Following high school, Carl worked for Lincoln High School and Della Lamb as a custodian and maintenance worker. He later began a long and dedicated career with City Wide Transportation, where he worked as a driver for 26 years until his untimely passing.
In 1994, Carl met Joanna Espino, and the two were united in marriage in 2010. From a young age, Carl had a passion for playing the drums and a deep love for baseball. This passion led him to become a baseball coach for Della Lamb and Mountaintop, where he impacted many young lives. Carl also enjoyed fishing, grilling, and gathering his “crew” to cut grass. Above all, he was a devoted family man who loved deeply. His greatest joy came from his grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Paw Paw.”
Carl departed this life on March 28, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carletta Thompson and Ronald Wallace; mother-in-law, Victoria Espino; maternal grandparents, Robert L. Thompson (Mary L. Thompson) and Venita Thompson; paternal grandparents, Monroe Wallace and Fammie Lee Wallace; sisters, Carla Wallace, Felicia Taylor, Pamela Smith, and Tinisha Robinson; and his brother, Roderick Roland.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Joanna Thompson; children, Joshua Shane-Thompson, Moron Espino, Champell Tatum, Charelle Espino, Tayler Adkins, and Carl Thompson, Jr.; sisters, Janell Trice (Greg Trice) and Ronnetta Thompson; 29 grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He also leaves behind his cherished childhood friends, Marion “Bam Bam” Potts, Jarlath “Rudy” Potts, and Mike Dawson.
Carl will be remembered for his love, laughter, dedication to family, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026. The visitation will be held from 9-11am, the service will follow promptly at 11:00am.
