Carl Edward Harris

Carl E. Harris was born on February 5, 1944, in Toney, Alabama, to Dave L. Harris and Rosie Cornelius Moore Lockett.

Carl attended Trinity High School, and after graduation, he relocated to Chicago, Illinois. His three brothers—Bobby, Charlie, and Robert—soon followed. Carl gained employment at Western Electric, a company that would go through several transitions, later becoming AT&T, Lucent Technologies, and now OFS.

During his time of employment, Carl met the love of his life, Annie B., whom he married on March 8, 1984. They made their home in Markham, Illinois, until deciding together it was time for a new beginning. Carl applied for an out-of-state transfer with Lucent Technologies, which led them to Georgia. There, they enjoyed frequent family visits, and Carl’s love for cooking and gardening shined. Carl was a man of few words, but his love was always evident through the meals he prepared and the care he took in his garden.

Following the passing of his beloved wife in 2003, Carl brought her home to be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri. Carl remained in Lawrenceville, Georgia, until his retirement. In 2006, his children convinced him to move to Kansas City to be closer to family, where he spent the next nineteen years until God called him home.

Carl was preceded in death by his father, Dave Harris; his mother, Rosie Lockett; his sister, Minnie McKenzie; his brothers, Bobby Harris, Robert Harris, and Charlie Lockett; and his beloved wife, Annie B. Harris.

He leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Ida Harris (Elder George), Marie Jefferson (Carl), and Linda Lockett; and his brother, Elder Robert Lockett (Diane). He is also survived by his stepchildren, James (Verna), Juannette (Oscar “Bud”), Sharon (Steven), Andrea, Keith, and Marvin (Susan); along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other beloved relatives.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Westminster Baptist Church, 11230 Bristol Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64134. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
