In Loving Memory of Cary "Dale" Harris
September 4, 1947 – May 21, 2025
Cary "Dale" Harris, born on September 4, 1947, in Oakland, California, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 21, 2025, in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. He was 77 years old. Dale proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, a chapter that deeply shaped his character and quiet strength. He was a private and thoughtful man, with a deep reverence for the simpler things in life—especially the game of baseball.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cary "Eldon" and Marylynn Harris. One of his most treasured memories was attending his very first Los Angeles Dodgers game with his father on April 8, 1958. That day ignited a lifelong devotion to baseball and a deep, unwavering love for the Dodgers that stayed with him through every season of his life. Dale was the father of three children. Though their lives took different paths, each remained a part of his story. His eldest, a son he never had the opportunity to meet, lived on in his thoughts.
In the later years of his life, Dale had the chance to reunite with his daughter Lisa (Tim) Foss, forging a geographically distant but meaningful connection. His youngest son, Cory (Ashley) Harris, from whom he had been estranged in more recent years, once shared a bond with him that time could not fully erase. He was also a grandfather to three grandchildren (Daniel, Jr., Deedra and Tori) and seven great-grandchildren (Lily, Dani, Jamison, Dana, Liliann, Steven, Jr., and Trae) who will carry forward his legacy in their own lives.
In accordance with his wishes, Dale will be cremated, and his ashes will be spread at (or near) Dodger Stadium, with permission of course,—a place that held his heart from the time he was a boy. There, among the echoes of cheering crowds and the crack of a bat, his spirit will rest. Though his life held its share of solitude, Dale will be remembered for his service, his enduring love for the game of baseball, and the complexity of a life fully lived—with all its turns, regrets, and quiet moments of meaning Rest peacefully, Dale. You are remembered with honor, humility, and heart.
A GoFundMe has been set up in Dale’s memory to help his loved ones fulfill his final wishes and give him the respectful farewell he asked for. If you're able, please consider donating or sharing to help us give him the respectful and heartfelt farewell he deserves.
