Chandra Lynn (Brown) Buffington was born on August 25, 1958, in Kansas City, Missouri, to the late LaVerne (Toms) Brown and Paul Brown.

Chandra accepted Christ at an early age and carried her faith with her throughout her life. She was an active and devoted member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where she faithfully worshipped, enjoyed fellowship with her church family, and continued to grow in her faith.

Chandra attended the Kansas City Public School System and graduated from Paseo High School in 1976. Following graduation, she answered the call to serve her country by joining the United States Army. During her military service, she was stationed in South Carolina and Germany before receiving an honorable discharge in 1980.

After her military service, Chandra relocated to Wichita, Kansas, where she pursued her education and earned her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) credential. She began a rewarding career in healthcare, dedicating herself to helping and caring for others.

In 1980, Chandra married Kevin Buffington. The couple briefly lived in Dallas, Texas, before Chandra returned to her hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. Although the marriage ended in separation in 1987, Chandra continued building a life defined by determination, service, and personal growth.

In 1987, Chandra began working for the City of Kansas City, where she faithfully served for 14 years. In 2001, she accepted an internship at the University of Kansas Medical Center. After completing two years as an intern, she was hired as a full-time employee and remained there until her retirement in 2016.

Retirement, however, was never the end of the road for Chandra. True to her ambitious spirit, she returned to school the same year and earned an Associate Degree in Psychology from Park University in 2018. She later used her education to make a difference in the lives of troubled youth, providing guidance, encouragement, and support.

Chandra was passionate about family and spent the last decade of her life researching her family history, tracing her roots, and reconnecting with relatives across multiple states. She found great joy in preserving family connections and ensuring that loved ones remained connected to one another.

Family and friendships were among Chandra's greatest treasures. She especially cherished spending time with her beloved Paseo High School Class of 1976, maintaining lifelong friendships and creating lasting memories. Chandra also had a deep love for animals. Throughout her life, she cared for numerous pets, treating each one as family. To Chandra, there was no such thing as a stray animal—every creature deserved love, care, and compassion.

Chandra departed this life on May 23, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, LaVerne and Paul Brown, and her sister, Cynthia Brown.

She leaves to cherish her memory her brothers, Dierick Brown, Daryl Brown, Dana Ali, and Darren Riccardo; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates, friends, and all whose lives were touched by her kindness, strength, and generosity.

Chandra's legacy of service, perseverance, compassion, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
