Charles P. Mackey Jr. was born on October 26, 1954, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Charles and Patsy Mackey. He was the second child born of four children. His parents and baby brother Sam preceded him in death. Soon after his birth, his parents moved to Kansas City, Missouri. Charles was affectionately called “Chuck” or “Mack” by his family and friends. Chuck’s early education began at St. Joseph Catholic School. He attended Lincoln Junior then Lincoln Senior High. While attending Lincoln Senior High, he played the bass tuba in the Mighty Marching Blue Tiger Band under the leadership of Mr. Calvin Whitmore Sr. His parents raised him to learn and know God’s word. He also received early teaching and learning as a youth at the Catholic school he attended, but as an adult he began establishing his own relationship with Christ as a member of Sheffield Family Life Center Church and later as a member of Destiny Life Center Ministries. Chuck really enjoyed cooking on the grill and in the kitchen. He developed a lot of his skills and knowledge for grilling from working at the neighborhood barbecue restaurant, Dixieland. He also had a passion for fishing, which he did a lot as a young man. He had a loving and kind spirit for everyone he came in contact with, and he never met a stranger. He loved all types of music but mostly favored Old School R&B, Jazz, and Gospel. The Lord blessed Charles to be a father to five beautiful children, Keiyer, Charles III, twins, Kevia Lynn and Kevin, and James C. Smith. Keiyer and Kevin preceded him in death. He loved his children dearly. Chuck went into business for himself as a home renovation contractor, Mackey’s General Contractor. He later was employed and retired from CertainTeed Fiberglass Plant, serving as a Union Steward. Charles met the love of his life, his soul mate, Venus Childress, in 2004, and in 2006 they were united in holy matrimony. On Friday, July 10th, Charles received his call from our Heavenly Father and peacefully entered into his eternal rest with grace and serenity. He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife, Venus Mackey; son Charles Mackey III (Mia), daughter Kevia Lynn Mackey; son James C. Smith; sister Trenna Irving (Gary), sister Toni Mackey (Terry), sister Phaetima Mackey-Woods (Mario), grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
