Reflection of Life of Chicquita Rye

Her name means “a small gift.”

Chicquita Lorae Rye, was the only child born to Joann Rye in Kansas City, Missouri on April 2, 1962, and raised from a young child by Ernestine Taylor all of her life. She loved her family, and she was nicked name by her uncle as “Quita Bird.” She grew into a lovely young lady and was a very private person, but she also knew how to keep it real.

She went to Blenheim Elementary School, and she graduated from Southeast High School and immediately went into the health profession. She also worked other jobs on the side.  She worked at University Hospital, Stanland Clinic, and then St. Lukes where she was administrative assistance to many doctors. She loved her work, and St. Luke’s loved her. We honor St. Luke today for their kindness shown to her by allowing her to work from home and taking care of her at their hospice home.

Style and Fashion is what she was known for in the Kansas City scene.  A true fashionista with thousands of shoes. She was not only a beautiful young lady on the outside, but she was the same on the inside.  She loved to travel and go places.  She loved to come to California with Ernestine, to visit her uncle and go to Glen Ivy Hot Springs.

Chicquita fought a good fight battling her condition and she keep the faith and trusted God, because miracle runs in the family. On her last visit to California, she was baptized in the Name of Jesus, September 2021.

She departed us July 9th, 2023. She leaves these behind to remember her spirit, a brother, Wayland Taylor, Sister, Ricketta Wallace, Uncle Bishop Hershel Strother (BJ), Aunt in law, Denise Smith and Michelle Wallace and Derrick Smith - brother, Monty Wallace Jr - Nephew,  Monte Wallace Nephew, Dru Smith - Cousin, Frank Mosley - Cousin, Jason and Brianna Taylor - Cousin.
