Christopher D. Powell

Mr. Christopher D. Powell, died Friday May 5, 2023 with his daughter and close cousin by his side at the Hospice House of Kansas City, MO.

Mr. Christopher Powell, 73, was born December 13, 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri to his late parents Opal Powell and William B. Johnson.

“Chris” or “Mike” as he was passionately referred to by his friends and family, could accomplish anything he set his mind to. With such determination, he later established two successful businesses, "Chris the Appliance Man" and his lawn service business.

It was not uncommon to visit with Christopher and find yourself immersed in his music or engulfed by his excitement towards his vintage model cars, remote airplanes, or remote drones.

Christopher joined the U.S. Army in June of 1969,  receiving his GED, The National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Medals; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; Army Commendation Medal; and Sharpshooter (M-14 Rifle).

Christopher was preceded in death by his wife, Rhonda Powell; and son, William L. Bates Sr.

Christopher leaves to mourn passing his daughter, Crystal Powell of Kansas City, MO; grand-children, William Bates Jr., Marcus Jones Jr., and Krista Jenkins all of Kansas City, MO and a host of other relatives, and friends.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday May 18, 2023 at 3 P.M. at Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC Located at 2800 East 18th St., Kansas City, Missouri 64127.
