Cleavon Taylor Sr.

Cleavon L. Taylor Sr., was born on November 24, 1942 in Wisner, Louisiana to Annie Bell Brass-Brown and Oscar Taylor.
Cleavon was educated in the Wisner school district and graduated from Wisner-Gilbert High School. He worked with various companies; Putsch’s 210, General Motors (Kansas City Lee’s plant), B &G Maintenance, Building Keepers, and RJ Reynolds, just to name a few. He was also owner of his own company, “Taylor Janitorial Service”.

Cleavon received many awards and accolades in his lifetime. His greatest achievement was his relationship with God, his faith in GOD never wavered. Cleavon loved the Lord and made sure every-one he came into contact with, had a taste of how good God was to him. Cleavon inspired, motivated and encouraged people to do their best in all things.
Cleavon, rededicated his life to Christ at Christian Tabernacle Church Of GOD In Christ under the leadership of Bishop Emanuel Newton and first Lady Sarah Newton. He was happy to serve the church and GOD, and was ordained a Deacon, and a member of the Men’s Chorus. Some of his duties included, Opening, Closing, and cleaning the church. Some of his most prideful moments were teaching Sunday school, singing in the Men’s chorus.

Cleavon enjoyed watching his favorite team the Kansas City Chiefs. He also enjoyed being able to travel the world by visiting family members in other states, and going overseas.
Cleavon was married twice in his lifetime. His first wife was Jewell l. Scott. She preceded him in death. His second wife was Mattie Jody Wesley who also preceded him in death. Cleavon was blessed with four children, Donna, Monica, Veronica and Cleavon, Jr. He also had one stepson, Terry Wesley.

Cleavon departed this life on Saturday, April 22, 2023. His parents, Annie Bell Brass-Brown, and Oscar Taylor; sisters, Katherine “Katie” Brown-Grandison, Virginia Rose Blanche, and Stella Mae Taylor; brothers, Robert Taylor, and Feddie Taylor; stepson, Terry Wesley; granddaughter, Angela Taylor; and son in-law, Curtis Iverson all preceded him in death.
Cleavon leaves to cherish his memory his children, Donna Taylor, Veronica Iverson, Monica Morgan, (Lawrence), and Cleavon Taylor II; life long friend, Charlie “Jimmie” Parker; The Scott, Wesley, and Newton Families; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday May 2, 2023, visitation will be held from 10 A.M. - 11 A.M. with services beginning at 11 A.M. at Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC located at 2800 East 18th st., KCMO 64127.
