David Alan Holmes

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of David Alan Holmes, 80, of Kansas City, Missouri. David completed the journey God had for him on earth and passed into eternity with his Savior, Jesus, on June 8, 2025, while holding his wife’s hand. He was able to tell his family earlier, “See you later,” because he knew it was not “Goodbye.”

David was born on October 7, 1944, in Elmhurst, Illinois, to Paul and Elsie (Young) Holmes. He graduated from Glenbard East High School in Lombard, IL, in 1962. On September 27, 1997, he married Lola Roberts. David was a member of Hope Fellowship Church and had also been active for several years at Antioch Bible Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jim. Survivors include his wife, Lola, of the home; his brother, Bill Holmes of Lombard, IL; his daughter, Sandie (Chuck) Klassen of Naples, FL, and grandchildren, Ben and Dana; his son, Mike (Barb) Holmes of League City, TX, and grandchildren, Grace and Josh; his stepson, Tim (Udana) Summa of Kansas City, MO, and grandchildren, Emma and Ethan; his stepdaughter, Sabrina (Chad) Wake of Grant City, MO, and grandsons, Lucas and Lincoln; as well as nieces and nephews.

David retired from Cameron Mutual Insurance Company in 1999. He loved his dogs, Cody, Toby, and Kody, which preceded him in death. His favorite hobby was fishing, especially a memorable trip to Canada with his son, Mike. He loved to travel, and he and Lola visited all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean. He especially enjoyed trips to Branson and Silver Dollar City, where he rode roller coasters with his grandsons. Florida was a favorite winter destination. Church was important to David’s life. He spent many years volunteering with Vacation Bible School, AWANA, and Royal Family KIDS Camp for abused and neglected children. He also enjoyed working with kids at the YMCA.

Family and friends were very important to David. He cherished spending time with Sabrina on various projects, and with Lucas and Lincoln, who were his pride and joy. He was always willing to lend a hand to a family member or friend in need. David requested no formal funeral or memorial. He wanted his family and friends not to mourn his death, but to remember and celebrate all the good times shared together. He lived each day with a smile and laughter.

We miss you, Dave, and we look forward to the day we are together again in heaven.
