In Loving Memory of Delbert Cyrus “Junior” Rowan Jr.

January 23, 1930 – October 16, 2025

Delbert Cyrus Rowan Jr., affectionately known as "Junior" or simply "Papaw," peacefully passed away at the age of 95 in Independence, Missouri. Born on January 23, 1930, in Mabie, West Virginia, to Olie Belle and Delbert C. Rowan as one of seven children, he lived a long, meaningful life rooted in love, service, and quiet strength.

On March 6, 1954, Delbert married the love of his life, Bernice Elza, who survives him. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and unwavering commitment—a bond that spanned over 70 years.

Delbert proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Master Sergeant in the 2nd Infantry Division during the Korean War. His dedication and courage left a lasting legacy of service and sacrifice. Delbert was a member of the Salt River Masonic Lodge, The Order of the Eastern Star, The Scottish Rite and was a Shriner.

After his military service, Delbert worked as a maintenance foreman at American Standard in Louisville, Kentucky, where he later retired. But his most cherished role was that of Papaw. He was the devoted grandfather to Pam Davidson (Casey) and great-grandfather to Jonathan and Henry Pitt. He also opened his heart and home to countless "chosen family" members throughout the years, becoming a source of wisdom, warmth, and steady support to all who knew him.

A man of few words, Delbert spoke only when he had something meaningful to say—and when he did, people listened. He lived simply and fully, savoring life’s quiet joys: a scoop of ice cream, a perfectly cooked steak, and the faithful companionship of a dog by his side or in his lap.

Delbert's gentle presence, strong character, and deep love for his family will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.

A private family service will be held to honor his life at a later time.
