Desiree Rechelle Williams was born on June 23, 1955, to Bennie Younger and Ruth J. Williams. She was lovingly raised by her mother, Ruth, and her father, the late Rev. Charles (C.L.) Williams Sr.
At an early age, Desiree accepted Christ and joined Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership and founding of her father, Rev. C.L. Williams Sr. She was active in the church, singing in the youth choir and serving on the usher board. Desiree was a beautiful person inside and out, known for her contagious laugh and captivating smile.
She graduated from Central Senior High School in 1973 and later moved to California, where she attended college and worked for GTE Phone Company for over ten years. Upon returning to Kansas City, Missouri, Desiree was employed by Shook, Hardy & Bacon Law Firm until she retired to care for her beloved mother.
Desiree was a devoted and loving caregiver, providing exceptional care for her mother Ruth. Even as her own health began to decline, Desiree made sure to give her mother a beautiful celebration for her 90th birthday this past May, surrounded by family and friends. She loved her mother dearly and showed it every day in countless ways.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Foster and Nettie Thompson; her father, Rev. C.L. Williams Sr.; her sister, Genita Williams; and her brothers, Daniel (Danny) Herron and Donald Ray Williams.
Desiree leaves to cherish her memory her loving mother, Ruth J. Williams; her brothers, Rev. Charles L. Williams Jr. (Valerie), Kenneth Williams, Keith Williams (Arlene), and Mel Williams; her sisters, Rosalind Overton (Georgia) and Roxanne Gushin (Washington); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; a special aunt, Dorothy Curl; a special cousin, Jackie Rector; and her devoted companion, Admiral L. Britt.
Desiree’s kindness, radiant spirit, and unwavering love for her family will be forever remembered.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Peace Baptist Church,, 2300 Chestnut Ave, Kansas City, MO 64127. The visitation will begin at 10:00am, the service will follow at 11:00am.
