Dorothy Joreen Smith (Holland, Mooney) was the eldest daughter of Joseph and Eula Mae Thompson Smith. She was born on December 7, 1934, in Tallahassee, Florida, and spent her formative years in Volusia County, New Smyrna Beach, Florida. She married James Earl Holland of Chicago, Illinois, and together they had five children. Mr. Holland preceded her in death in July 1965.

Pastor Emeritus Mooney was a licensed evangelist of this diocese and had been a member of The Church of the Living God (COTLG CWFF) since 1954. Evangelist Mooney was the second woman to be ordained in the COTLG CWFF. She joined the Women’s Work in 1964, sang in the National Choir until 1978, and served as Superintendent of Sunday School, Assistant Pastor, and Pastor of Temple #56.

She worked for the United States Postal Service for 40 years until her retirement. In 1969, she married Reverend Joe Mooney, who also preceded her in death.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Eula Mae Zanders; her brother, Chief Master Sergeant Ezra Smith; her sister, Roslind Lowry; one half-sister, Alonia Butler; and a grandson, J’Andre Holland.

She leaves to mourn her loss four sons: Rodney Zanders, Rory Holland, Lawrence Holland, and Reginald Holland; two daughters: Regina Holland and Lynn McCreary; grandchildren: D’Anthony Morrison, Deidra Morrison-Wells, Ladeana McGee, Cheryl and Gee Williams, Stephanie Holland-Williams, Heather Holland, and Lorna Zanders; niece, Lariya Lowry; and nephew, Ryan Lowry. She is also survived by a host of great-grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews, and other loving relatives.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday March 28, 2025, visitation will be held from 8:30 A.M. - 10:30 A.M. with services beginning at 10:30 A.M. at Church of The Living God 300 N. Garfield St. Bonner Springs, Kansas

Interment: Brooking Cemetery, Kansas City, MO
