Dorothy Elaine Porter was born on March 18, 1977, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Gwendolyn Howard and Robert Nugent.
Dorothy was lovingly named after both her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Whitley, and her paternal grandmother, Dorothy Nugent, who both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her grandfather, Floyd Nugent; her brother, Terrance Maxwell; and her beloved husband, Clifton Porter Jr.
Dorothy preferred to be called by her middle name, Elaine.
Elaine completed her general studies at Southeast High School in Kansas City, where she graduated in the top ten of her class with honors and earned a full nursing scholarship. She was a gifted poet and received an offer to write for Hallmark.
Elaine had a deep passion for serving her community and pursued a career as a mortgage expert, where she excelled and held many professional titles. She was also an entrepreneur and founded her own company, DEW IT, where she created custom designs for everyday needs. Elaine cherished time spent with her family and friends.
Elaine later moved to Lewisville, Texas, where she met the love of her life, Clifton Porter Jr. On March 18, 2023, the two were united in marriage. Together, they adopted their beloved dog, Henni Porter. Elaine and Clifton enjoyed traveling across the United States, listening to live bands, and watching sports.
Elaine departed this life on December 16, 2025. She and her husband are now reunited.
Elaine leaves to cherish her memory her children, Ashley Bynum, Bria Bynum, Jermaine Bynum Jr., Cavon Richardson, Tionne Bynum, Andrea Bynum, and Alai’Jah Bynum; her bonus children, Cleveland Porter, Clifton Porter III, Shakira Porter, and Porchella Porter; her parents, Gwendolyn Howard and Robert Nugent, and Jackie Nugent; her siblings, Nicole Parker, Melinda Howard-Brown (TyJuan Brown Sr.), DeAntay Fletcher, Whitney Preston, Jeffrey Jones, RaShaun Brown, and Rachel Hughes; her grandparents, Thomas Whitley and Elizabeth Whitley; her mother-in-law, Mary Jones, and the Porter family; her bonus mother, Vivian Bynum, and the Bynum family; her special cousins, Cassaundra Herron and LaKanisha Prewitt; her childhood best friend, Jameelah Johnston; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at The Refuge KC 141 N. Lawndale, Kansas City, Missouri 64123. Visitation will begin from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Brooking Cemetery, located at 5200 Raytown Road, Raytown, Missouri 64130.
