Edward "Ed" Eugene Vanlanker

Edward “Ed" Eugene Vanlanker was born January 12, 1958. He was raised in Raytown, MO by mother, Mary J. Vanlanker and step-father Oscar H. Vanlanker. June 30, 2024, at the age of 66, Ed passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Ed was a passionate fan of NASCAR, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Kansas City Royals. Ed's love for sports was only matched by his love for the great outdoors. He cherished weekends spent at Pomme De Terre Lake, he also enjoyed deer hunting and fishing with friends and family. In his younger years, Ed found joy in playing softball on Sundays with his brother Gary and took great pride in cooking out, often sharing his famous potato salad with everyone. His days were often spent watching westerns and listening to classic rock music while enjoying a cold beer. In his final rest, he will finally meet the woman of his dreams Marilyn Monroe and raise a glass with ‘The Duke’ John Wayne.

In his teenage years, Ed embarked on a long and dedicated career in the concrete and construction industry, working alongside his brothers at companies such as Dusselier Bros., Dupuis, K.C. and Show Me Ready Mix.

Ed’s memory will be forever cherished by his beloved children: his daughter Melissa Whitesel (Ron), his daughter Mary Hinken (Tom), his son Dakota Vanlanker, and his daughter Bailey Vanlanker. He is also survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

His siblings, who loved him dearly, include his sister Janet Cloe (Temple), his sister Terri Henggeler (whom he affectionately called “Sweetie”), his brother Gary Vanlanker (Denise), and his brother Henry Vanlanker (Bonnie). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the KC Hospice team for their compassionate care and support.

Ed fought like a viking, defying all odds and embracing his final chapter with courage. Sail away into eternal bliss, ‘Captain’. We love you.

A celebration of life will be hosted, Sun. July 14, 2024 at 2:00pm at Funhouse in Lee Summit off 350 Highway, (405 NW Blue Pkwy, Lee Summit, MO 64063).
