Obituary

Elder Johnnie Awood Moore was born on April 5, 1949, in Moberly, Missouri, to Awood Moore Jr. and Marthella Smith Moore.

Johnnie grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, where he received his formal education in the Kansas City Public School System. He was a proud high school track and field athlete, competing in several events and earning recognition along with multiple medals. He will be fondly remembered for his dedication and perseverance, qualities that followed him throughout his life.

In 1971, Johnnie married the love of his life, Patsy Warren. They shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. From this union, five children were born, all of whom he was extremely proud of.

Johnnie retired from the City of Kansas City Public Works Department after 30 years of dedicated service. Following retirement, he continued working with True Value Hardware Store, First Student Transportation, and most recently, Zum Bus Company.

Johnnie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1972 and became a preacher of the Gospel around 1976. In 1991, he was ordained as an elder in the Church of God in Christ. He remained a faithful member of St. Luke Memorial Church of God in Christ for 50 years.

He served in ministry under his father-in-law, Pastor Jimmie Lee Warren, and later under Administrative Assistant Michael C. Warren, serving as assistant pastor. For the past 11 years, he faithfully supported his son, Administrative Assistant Pastor Johnny A. Moore, in ministry as well.

Elder Moore loved the Lord and was a true churchman. He was wise, faithful, and diligent, not only in his service to God but also in his respect for leadership. He was an anointed vessel of God who worshiped freely and joyfully, dancing before the Lord with all his might. Many lives were blessed through his ministry. He was also a proud author of his first published book, Visions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Awood and Marthella Moore, and his sister, Frances Fields.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Mother Patsy Moore; five children: daughters Kimberly Thomas, Janna Marshall (Tim), and Angela Moore (Nelson); sons Administrative Assistant Pastor Johnny Moore (Latitta) and Robert Moore, all of Kansas City, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren: Deion, Arieonna, Angelo, Chase Nelson, Tasha Moore (mother of his grandchildren), RocCheztar, Sikindril, Maketta, Sarah Moore, Ameriah Marshall, Anaya Moore, Allycia Moore, Johnnia Moore, and Jada Moore; his brother, Charles Moore (Dorothy); his sister, Gayle McCoy, all of Kansas City, Missouri; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The Homegoing Celebration of Elder Johnnie Awood Moore will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at St. Luke Memorial COGIC, located at 3100 E. 31st Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64128. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
