Eldon Leroy
Head
June 3, 1947 – April 10, 2026
Eldon Leroy Head, age 78, passed away on April 10, 2026, in his home after a long illness. He was born on June 3, 1947 to the parents of Pauline (Hawk) and Holmer Leroy Head in Willis Kansas.
Eldon graduated from Wilis High School in 1965. Shortly after, he served his country in the National Guard for a little over a year, a time in his life he carried with pride.
Eldon lived a life defined by hard work, independence, and passion. He spent 55 years as a truck driver, traveling on the highways with dedication and pride. He was known for his strong work ethic and steady nature, earning the respect of all who knew him. Outside of his work, Eldon had a deep love for cowboy shooting, where he found both enjoyment and fellowship, embracing the traditions and spirit of the Old West. He was known as Gus on the range. Eldon loved his breakfast dates with his buddies.
While living in Chariton, Iowa, Eldon served his community as a volunteer firefighter for many years, demonstrating his willingness to help others in times of need. During his time in Iowa, he and his family also opened their home to foster many children over the years, offering care, stability, and kindness to those who needed it most.
He survived by his loving wife, Connie Couch; his daughter, Michelle Reinhart and her husband Doug; and his three grandchildren, Jeremey, Joseph, and Jillian Maffei. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Brook and her husband Dennis; brothers-in-law Larry Couch and his wife Linda, and Gregory Couch and his wife Kelley; as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews that were his world.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline and Leroy “Shorty” Head, his sister, DeAnn Goodwin and his niece Kim Chrisman.
A Celebration of life to honor Eldon will be held on May 16 th , 2026. More details to follow.
He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
