Enora Jean Schafer

Enora Schafer was born in the Summer of 1968, sharing her birthday with Lady of the KC zoo. She spent her childhood bouncing around along with her four sisters. Along the way, she gathered more family, proving the old adage that family does not end in blood. Nearly forty-three years ago, she entered into “an unlawful and unholy” marriage with a man that would prove that some people are meant to be family even when romance wasn’t a viable option.

Enora had her first child when she was just seventeen and still in high school. She moved in with the mother of the father of that child and with Elizabeth’s support, managed to graduate high school and continue on through a college degree. That degree made her one of the first people in her family to go to college. All four of Enora’s children were in the audience to witness her momentous accomplishment.

She lived her life to the fullest extent she could. She defied definitions and explanations and wanted nothing more than to invoke responses from the world around her. She loved elephants and cats. She had just begun the planning stages of opening a cat retirement home.

Unexpectedly, Enora suffered a stroke and unfortunately passed from this world on September 11, 2025. She leaves behind Craig (the unlawful husband); Stacy, Pauline, Jonathan, and Jessica (her children); Romulus & Emre (her grandchildren); all four of her blood siblings (Beckie, Stacie, Debbie, and Dianna); her chosen sisters (Denise & Cyndi); and many fur babies & grandbabies. She joins in the afterlife Elizabeth, the woman who once went “is anyone going to care for this new teen mom?” and didn’t bother waiting for an answer before doing it herself, thus setting the standard of motherhood that Enora would spend the rest of her life following.
