Gertina Jones was born March 2,1930 in Hempstead Arkansas to Ebby Jones and Cora Riley.
Gertina was educated at an early age in the Hope, Arkansas, school district before traveling to Kansas City, Missouri. She took on the job of being a housekeeper until she retired.
On June 9, 1961, Gertina entered into a marriage with David Bedford, Sr. During this union, they were blessed with eight children.
Gertina, known to many as Mrs. Gertrude, was feisty and loved to talk her stuff. She would argue with the best of them.
She loved to walk everywhere she went, meeting people along the way.
Gertina loved making everybody family.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother to her family.
Gertina was preceded in death by her husband, David Bedford, Sr.; two sons, Kirk Lee Bedford and John Bedford; her parents, Ebby and Cora Jones; seven sisters, Mary Jones, Shirley Jones, Jesse B. Jones, Bulah Jones, Burda Jones, Alma Taylor, and Alice Jones; two brothers, Willie Jones and Johnnie Jones; five grandchildren, Fredrick Johnson, David Baskin, Mickevia Hudson, Shinita Hudson, and Kyle Bedford; four great-grandchildren, Marquez Baskin, Dymon Thompson, La’Kevion Wagner Baskin, and Tashyra Turner; and two great-great-grandchildren, Dominic Byers and E”Siyah Singleton.
Gertina departed this earth on January 14, 2026, and leaves to cherish her memory her children, Betty Degraftenreed, David Bedford, Jr., Charles Bedford, Calvin Bedford (Deborah), Ella Gray (Steven), and Eddie Bedford; 24 grandchildren, Ronald, Tashana (Jonathan), Nicole (Joseph), Roderick, Christopher, Lee, Sammie, Michelle, Dorthy, Shawn, Micheal, Demarcus, Marquez, Kaylia, Tyreek, Jason, Calvin, Jr., Tanika (Carla), Christina, Ciera, Shondell (Earnest), Jeffery, Walter, and Kevin; her best friend of over 50 years, Mrs. Arceal Bucanaan; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Service will be held Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Golden Gate Funeral and Cremation Services, LLC, 2800 East 18th Street Kansas City, Mo. 64127. The visitation will begin at 9am, the service will follow at 11am.
