Gwendel Adell Webster (known to most as “Gwen,” and known to her grandchildren a “GiGi”) was born on September 27, 1951 to Otis Washington and Fern A. Jones Washington. She was one of six children. Gwen accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and grew up with a firm foundation in the Lord. Her favorite Bible verse was Jeremiah 29:11. She was educated in the Kansas City Public School system and graduated from Southeast High School in 1970. Gwen worked at Dolgins Jewelry for many years which is also where she met her former husband, the late William L. Webster, Jr. To their union came two children: Mallory and Briggs.
Gwen left the jewelry industry to be a stay-at-home mom while Briggs and Mallory were young. As they grew up, she reentered the workforce working for the Blue Springs School District. She retired in 2012 as a Paraprofessional/Teacher Aid. Gwen loved her children. She enjoyed many years of being a full-time “football” mom and “softball” mom, always on the go. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren, her siblings and her best friend, Harolyn. Gwen had a creative touch.
She operated a small business out of her home creating floral arrangements for weddings, parties, and various events. Gwen was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Secretary and was involved in the Events Ministry.
Gwen departed this life on Monday, July 14th . Both parents and three of her sisters (Charlotte Jones, LaFern Washington, and Brenda Washington) preceded her in death. Gwen leaves to cherish her memory her two children: Mallory (Reggie) and Briggs (Cassie); her four sweet grandchildren Detriana, RJ, Myles, and Roman; her remaining siblings, Larry Washington and Lynette Williams; her cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
