Herbert Lee Courtney, age 81, passed away peacefully on March 21 at 10:21 PM at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri, surrounded by his loving wife of 53 years, Kay, and his grandson Justin.

Herbert was born on July 1, 1944, and lived a life defined by devotion to family, adventure, and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures that made life meaningful. He shared a lasting and loving partnership with his wife Kay, building together a family and a lifetime of cherished memories.

He was a man of many passions. Herbert found peace and joy in hunting, fishing, demonstrated remarkable skill as a world-class sporting clays shooter, and was known as a true cigar aficionado who appreciated both craftsmanship and conversation. An adventurous spirit at heart, he was also a serial safari traveler, embracing opportunities to explore the world and experience new cultures and landscapes.

Above all, Herbert treasured his role as a family man. He leaves behind a legacy of love carried on by his grandchildren and his three great-grandchildren — two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson — who brought him immense pride and happiness.

Herbert will be remembered for his warmth, his stories, his adventurous nature, and the steady presence he provided to those who knew and loved him. His life was marked by loyalty, curiosity, and a quiet strength that left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
