Hester Mae Shelton was born March 23, 1952, to Jessie Mae Keller and Lava Worthy in Saint Joseph, Louisiana. Both parents preceded her in death.
Hester Mae Shelton departed this life surrounded by loved ones at St Luke's Hospital of Kansas City. She received her education in the Rapides Parish School System. She was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1970. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Hester moved to Kansas City Mo.at the age of 19. She has 3 sisters that precedes her in death: Rosalie Vaughn, Gloria Douglas, and Rosena Douglas, and 1 great-uncle, Emeal Willis. She loved to spend time with the family and cook. She was known to give people nicknames, especially when she couldn’t remember their real names. She was an active member of the Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church, where Rev. Thomas Shelton is the Pastor. She was on the Usher and Mother Board. She had a long work history within the school system as a cook, para, and Grandparent.
She leaves to cherish her memories her 6 children. Allen Andrews, Lawrence Andrews, YoLonda Williams (Darryl), Kenya Andrews, Quincy Andrews, Jermaine Andrews. Twelve grandkids: Deron Magic Andrews, Altaneice Andrews, Loretta Johnson, Allyn Andrews, Marlon Andrews, YoLonta’ Andrews, Darryl Williams III, Ke’on Andrews, Keyla Mitchell, Moja’ Andrews, Wayne Paul Washington, Jermaine Andrews Jr. 10 Great Grand Kids. 2 brothers: Nathaniel Andrus and Emeal Andrus (Renee).Special friends: Doris Friendly, Debra Toney-Wilson, Thelma Berry, and Mya Craddock. One great-aunt, Florene Willis, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and The Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church Family.
A service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services LLC, 2800 East 18th Street, KCMO 64127. The visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 pm, with the service to follow promptly at 3:00 pm.
