Jeanette K. “Jan” Higgins passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, at the age of 89.

Jan lived a long and full life, filled with many experiences, relationships, memories, joys, and challenges. She was the matriarch of five generations, and her life became part of the foundation of a large and growing family whose story continues through the generations that follow her.

Like all of us, Jan was imperfect, but she was also strong, resilient, and deeply woven into the lives of those who came after her. Over the course of her 89 years, she watched her family grow and change in remarkable ways, leaving behind a legacy that reaches across five generations.

Jan was also a collector at heart. She loved holding onto things that caught her eye or carried meaning to her, and those who knew her well were certainly familiar with her tendency to save just about everything. Her collections became part of who she was and one of the many things her family will remember with a smile.

Her family will remember the moments they shared with her, the stories passed down through the years, and the lessons learned throughout the many seasons of her life. Every life is made up of many chapters, and Jan’s was no different. Each chapter became part of her story and, in turn, part of the story of the family she leaves behind.

Jan was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra J. Reardon; her grandsons, Jacob R. Olds and Barry C. Rippy; and her great-grandson, James D. Olds. Her family finds comfort in imagining Jan being welcomed once again by the loved ones who passed before her and in the joy of their reunion.

She leaves behind her children, Juliet F. Scott, Velvet D. Olds, John D. Olds, and Jim G.K. Olds, along with countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will carry her memory and legacy forward.

As we say goodbye, we choose to remember Jan with grace, to hold close the memories that bring comfort, and to honor the life of a woman whose story reached across five generations.

Her place as the matriarch of her family will always be remembered, and her story will live on through the generations she leaves behind.

May Jan rest in peace, and may her family find comfort in the memories, lessons, laughter, and generations that are part of her enduring legacy.
