Joey Earl Shelton was born in Kansas City, MO on February 6, 1963. He was the son of Albert Hobby and Mary Alice Shelton. He was the nineth child of nine children. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Ellistene Jones and Vera Corrine Meniefield; two brothers Lonnie Gene Sutton and Loveless (Pete) Washington; 4 nieces, 1 great niece, and 2 nephews. He was raised in the Kansas City, MO area where he received his education in the Kansas City Public Schools District.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age and attended All Saints Temple under the guidance of W.M Rogers. He later joined Christ Tabernacle Church (Rev. J.G Pinkins), Malachi Missionary Baptist Church (Pastor Donald Tittle), with his most recent fellowship at Good Hope Baptist Church (Pastor Marcus Jackson). Joey was a bus driver for KCPS and later worked briefly for the railroad company. In 2024, Joey started a transportation company. Creatively, he was a talented singer and musician who also played various instruments. He sung with The True Tones, The Spiritual Travelers, The Unifics, The Jordan Jubilees, and The Christian Songs. Joey was a likeable person who has never met a stranger and he will truly be missed.
Joey leaves to cherish his memories; his fiancé Danna Calvin (KCMO), two sons Darnell Duncan (STL) and Dylan Marks (SATX), three daughters Marcella Shelton (SATX), Keyaunna Shelton (KCMO), and Nicole Shelton (KCMO). Loving sisters; Mary Leverette (Flint, MI) and Verna Shelton, Joyce Harden Shelton, Laura Jones, Angie Jones, Sharon Smith, Rhonda Smith all within Kansas City, MO. Grandchildren including 4 grandsons and 3 granddaughters, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Let's not forget his fur babies, Bear and Buck.
A Funeral service will be held on Saturday February 7th, at Good Hope Baptist Church Of Jesus Christ 3800 East 56th Street. KCMO 64130. The visitation is scheduled 10 AM-11AM, the service will follow at 11AM.
