IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Edward
Lucas
August 6, 1943 – March 22, 2026
John Edward Lucas was born August 06, 1943, to parents Harry & Marcella Lucas in Kansas City, MO. John E. Lucas was baptised at a young age at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He attended St. Monica Elementary, then went to DeLasalle Academy, where he graduated. He received a degree in Psychology and Business, as well as Culinary Arts, at Penn Valley College. He also attended Kansas City Kansas Community College, where he received a degree in Journalism. He wrote for the college newspaper while attending KCKCC. He was employed at numerous places throughout the Kansas City, Kansas and KC, MO areas. He also spent time as a DJ, as well as a bouncer. He was joined in marriage to Deborah Hall on August 30, 1990; this union, 3 children were born. He retired in 2004.
John had an Authenic personality, most definitely kept it real. He was gonna be himself whether you liked it or not, take it or leave it. He loved listening to music, but had a passion for Jazz. You could catch him Saturday mornings with the music blasting, which meant time to clean house. Domino’s or Spades was his games of choice. His personality was magnetic; it drew a lot of people to him. A lot of the younger generation referred to him as OG or Pops. John enjoyed coming up with different recipes to cook for his family. He was an excellent cook. His biggest treasure was his family. He was very proud. He did the best he could at protecting and providing for his family.
His parents, Harry and Marcella, preceded him in death, as well as siblings: 2 sisters, Margaret Neal and Carolyn Johnson; and 1 brother, Calvin Lucas; son, John E. Lucas Jr.; and grandson, Derrick Davis.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 42 years, Deborah Hall Lucas; children: Torsha Story, Cynnita Oliver Lucas, A’lisha Lucas Hazelton [Billy Hazelton], Jenine Lucas, Shi’kari Lucas, Delaneo Hall [Megan Hall], Antonio Hall; 2 sisters, Harriett Willoughby [James], Joyce Lucas; and 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, by whom he will surely be missed.
A memorial will be held Saturday at Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC, 2800 E. 18th St., Kansas City, MO 64127. The service will begin at 3:00 PM; there will be no visitation prior to the service.
