Obituary

John Early Pearse, Jr. crossed over from our physical world into his life beyond death on December 25th, 2025, after facing a pancreatic cancer diagnosis with incredible strength. He assured those around him that he had lived his 77 years of life to their fullest, and he preferred to transition beyond the veil with the comfort and dignity of hospice services. We are eternally grateful to the Saint Luke’s Hospice House for providing him with such compassionate care and a peaceful passing.

John/Johnny/Clarity was born on September 17th, 1948, in Kansas City, MO, to John Early Pearse, Sr. and Joyce Challberg Pearse. John graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School and went on to study at Emporia State. He held a variety of jobs over the years, but he ultimately retired from UMKC where he worked as an administrative assistant within the school of medicine. He accomplished everything he wanted to do in life. John treasured deep connections with people and mother nature, especially in his many years shaping and attending Camp Gaea, a nature retreat center and educational nonprofit dedicated to fostering a welcoming environment for diverse spiritual paths, marginalized groups, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. He was deeply passionate about spreading tolerance and fostering the ability of others to live their truth. He was also passionate about genealogy, crafting mead wine, and sharing that wine with good friends and great conversation.

Though he never married nor had children, John was rich with loved ones, both family and friends. He was preceded in his passing by his parents, John and Joyce, and his brother Charlie. He leaves behind his sister Marian (Dave) Dyer of Overland Park, KS, sister-in-law Marilyn Pearse of Lawrence, KS, nieces Rachel Stouder, Maggie Shorney, and Sarah Wrocklage, many cherished cousins, and more dear friends than he ever imagined. A gathering for remembrance will be held at his home in the spring, and memorials will be held at his beloved Camp Gaea as well; dates to be determined. If you wish to honor his legacy, please consider a donation to Camp Gaea at gaearetreat.org, through their ‘donate’ tab at the top.

Like the Green Man, may John serve as a reminder that life moves in cycles — that after every ending comes a new beginning. May his wisdom and wit be kept alive in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.
