Joseph Leonard Mayfield, 82, passed away on March 17, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, music, and deep love for his family.

He was born on May 8, 1943, to Joseph Elmer Mayfield and Norma Mayfield, who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Terri Lynn Fields, and his sisters, Peggy and Betty.

Joseph is survived by his devoted wife, Lillian Catherine Mayfield; his children, Joe Mayfield, Robin Degn, Megan Hook, Janet Yorgovan, and Jerry Hansen; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

Joseph worked as a train engineer and later as a conductor at Worlds of Fun, where he brought smiles to countless families. He also worked for several years with Vanguard Airlines. Outside of work, music was one of his greatest passions. He loved playing guitar and performing in a band, even sharing the stage with Barbara Mandel and the Everly Brothers—moments he held close to his heart.

He also had a love for travel and adventure, always ready to explore something new. But above all, Joseph will be remembered for his playful spirit. He was silly, funny, and had a way of making people laugh when they needed it most.

He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
