Joseph Jerome Sims

Joseph Jerome Sims was born on October 10, 1949. He had a large family and was the youngest of many siblings. Joseph considered himself a "country boy" at heart. He spent time working and living in Chicago and most recently in Kansas City, Missouri.  

Joseph was a lover of music and found both enjoyment and healing in listening to songs that spoke to him.  He appreciated the opportunity to play dominoes, partake of a piece of German chocolate cake, ice cream, and any variety of smoked or BBQ cuisine. Friends could rely on Joseph for quality time with them, enjoying the weather, listening to him tell stories, and getting a good laugh. 

Mr. Sims took pride in his skill of being a chef.  He  regularly prepared meals for others in his community, with a particular love for honoring mothers in the neighborhood, clearly pointing to the connection he held with his own mom.  When he wasn't in the kitchen, you could find him cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs.  

Joseph developed a deepening faith in Christ and was part of Vision Community Church of the Nazarene  since Easter 2019.  His faith is what sustained him through loss, grief, and a long battle with cancer.  He showed incredible resilience, humility, and a sense of humor through what others might have viewed as insurmountable circumstances. He had a knack for encouraging others with words, both spoken and written.

Joseph departed this life on February 27, 2023 at the age of 73.  He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and his two beloved daughters.  

He leaves behind several caregivers and friends with whom he became close along his  journey, including two kids in his church family who he adored and affectionately called Princess and Alex.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday March 18, 2023 @ Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC
