Karen Denise Finley

Karen Denise Finley was born in Kansas City, Missouri on Thursday May 15, 1958 to Jackie Robinson and Lena B. Finley (Jenkins).  Karen was later adopted by her step-father, Freddie Finley Sr.

Karen was educated in the Kansas City, Mo public schools and later attended Metropolitan Community  Colleges and UMKC.  Karen loved learning so much  that some may even have called her a “Professional   Student.”  Karen worked in administration for the IRS for almost two decades.  She was important enough to have a large office and staff that she could boss around. 

Karen was a woman that did not let time stop her. She loved traveling, listening to music, and   being there for her family.  Karen’s best accomplishment was being a mother.  She loved her children but she once said that “the best part of being a momma is being a Grammie.” Every chance she got she was teaching and spending time with her grand-children.  She taught them life skills and she was very fond of educating them.

Karen’s last whispers fell on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 11:15 am surrounded by family and Crossroads Hospice. Her parents, Jackie Robinson, Lena and Freddie Finley Sr.; and two sisters, Sheryl Finley, and Julia Mae Finley all preceded her in death.

Karen leaves to cherish her memories her son, Donsha´ (Bonita); daughter, Demetria Finley; three brothers, Kenneth (Mary) Thompson Sr., Donald (Julia) Finley, and Ricky (Carolyn) Finley; five grandchildren, Maurice, Shayon, Donshá Jr., Dondré, & Dontaé Finley; and last but not least, one great-grandson, Ayden Amir Bell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday May 3, 2023, visitation will be held from 10 A.M. - 11 A.M. with services beginning at 11 A.M. at Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC located at 2800 East 18th st., KCMO 64127.

Interment: Twelve Gate Memorial Gardens
