Reflections on the Life of Larry Capell Hollins

A Life of Service, Faith, and Family

Larry K’Pel Hollins was born on August 20th, 1957, to Shirley Hollins and Charles Hollins. Raised in a close-knit family in Odessa, Larry graduated from Odessa High School before serving his country with honor in the military.

After his service, he dedicated many years to the Jackson County Jail, where he served as a case manager, a sergeant, and led the Color Guard along with a list of other positions—always bringing dedication, discipline, and integrity to every role he held.

Larry was a man of deep faith, a devoted believer who served at Graceway Church. His faith in Jesus Christ was a cornerstone of his life and guided the love, compassion, and steady presence he showed to everyone around him.

Above all, Larry was a pillar of support for his family. As the oldest brother, he embraced his role with responsibility and care. He was always there for his mother and father, making sure they had what they needed, helping manage responsibilities, and never hesitating to lend a hand. He was a true servant at heart—whether ensuring his mother’s comfort, helping his father, or being a dependable presence for his siblings.

He shared his love of fishing and the simple joys of life with all his children: K’Pel, Kyle, Isaiah, Kanesa, and Kalissa. His siblings—Franita January, Kim Hollins, and Terry Hollins—will remember him as a guiding force, the protective older brother who carried his role with honor and grace.

Larry also leaves behind his beloved nieces, Tera January and Tiffaniy Johnson, as well as a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, grandchildren, and extended family members who loved him deeply and will continue to carry his legacy forward.

Larry leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service—a life that touched many and will be remembered through the stories, the laughter, and the cherished memories shared by all who had the blessing of knowing him.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 12, 2025 at Calvary Baptist Church, 7995 Outer Rd., Odessa, Mo 64076. The visitation will begin at 9:00am, the service will follow at 11:00am.
