Laurel Fay (Turnidge) Oliver was born on August 21, 1958, in Coalville, Utah, to Sheldon and Ellie Turnidge.
Laurel was a bright and happy child who loved everyone and everything. She enjoyed reading the Sunday funnies to her family, who delighted in hearing her read and laugh. As a child, she enjoyed riding the cow and adored her beautiful cat, Dumb-Dumb. Laurel began playing the violin around the fourth grade and later switched to the viola in junior high, excelling in music and playing in her high school orchestra. She graduated from Bountiful High School.
Laurel had many passions, including reading her scriptures, solving crossword and word search puzzles, doing embroidery, and watching musicals—especially The Sound of Music and Mamma Mia. She had a big, beautiful smile and a sassy sense of humor. Laurel loved making those around her laugh. Her greatest accomplishment in life was being a devoted mother to her three children: Erika, Jason, and Matthew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Rutledge; her father, Sheldon Turnidge; her brothers, Randy and Clifford Turnidge; and her niece, Rivka (Turnidge) Bundra.
Laurel is survived by her mother, Eleanor Turnidge; her sister, Colleen Erickson; her brother, Kim Turnidge; her children, Erika Maroney, Jason Bock, and Matt Bock; and her grandchildren, Gabriel, Alina, Hunter, Kolton, Logan, Carly, and Paul.
Laurel passed away surrounded by family in Independence, Missouri, on April 15, 2025.
