Lawrence Key Jr. was born to Lawrence Key Sr. And Virginia R Hardiman (Champion).April 10, 1983 in Kansas City, Mo. Lawrence Key was baptized at an early age at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church.
He attended Hickman Mills High School and graduated in 2001.Lawrence was a dedicated entrepreneur, known for his skills in home remodeling and tree trimming. However, his true passion was cooking and grilling. He expressed his love for others through the meals he prepared, bringing people together and creating lasting memories through his food.
He was a Manager at The Homies House where he was committed to helping individuals rebuild their lives. Through guidance, patience, and understanding.
Lawrence made a meaningful impact on those working toward a second chance. He also worked as a cook at Blade & Timber were he was very much loved by Management and coworkers. Lawrence will be remembered for his generous heart, his giving spirit, and the way he showed love through both his actions and his presence. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the lessons he shared, and the memories that will be cherished forever. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Lawrence “Boogie” Key is preceded in death Grandfather Richard Hardiman, Grandmother’s Vivian Inez Hardiman and Priscilla Hardiman, Lula Mae Key, Daughter Shayla Key , 4 Uncle’s 9 Aunts.
He leaves to cherish his memory: father Lawrence Sr, Virginia Champion , father Willie Champion Sr., daughters, Lashayeah, Makya, Brianna, Maleaha Key, Jayla Weess, Destiny Giordano. son Christopher Mcgee, four grandchildren, sister Catina Champion,
brothers Reginald Key (Katherine), Willie Champion Jr, Phil Crowell and a host of
nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
A service will be held on Saturday May 02, 2026 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church 3935
Prospect Ave. KCMO 64130. The visitation will begin at 1:00-2:00pm, with the service to
follow promptly at 2:00pm.
