Linda Kay Griffin
April 26, 1947 – January 2, 2026
Linda Kay Griffin, 78, of Raytown, Missouri, passed away on January 2, 2026, at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born on April 26, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri. Linda was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.
Our mom may not have liked being the center of attention, but each of us feels she deserves to have her many years of motherly love honored. From the day our parents divorced, she became both mother and father to us girls. Mom worked two jobs to ensure we had the best she could provide. She often went without so that we could have what we needed—or even just what we wanted.
Before retiring, her last job was as a cook at Blue Ridge Elementary School in the Raytown School District. Prior to that, she cleaned houses for Top to Bottom Cleaning Company. Mom also worked at Kiddie Korral Daycare in Kansas City, Missouri, and at a restaurant called The Chicken Coop. During the holidays, she worked at Hickory Farms to earn a little extra money.
Our mother was very active in our lives, serving as both a friend and a disciplinarian. With four girls, we always had friends over—most of whom called her “Mom.” Her easygoing nature made everyone feel welcome.
In the last couple of years, as Mom’s COPD worsened, she became more of a homebody. She had many birdhouses in her front yard and enjoyed watching the beautiful hummingbirds. Mom loved her morning coffee while sitting outside feeding the squirrels. She would put out a pile of corn so they would come close and eat.
We teased her during her hospital stay when a nurse named Katie braided her hair—we all loved it, and Mom looked so beautiful. We told her she was the queen of the squirrels. As we arrived at the hospital, we saw them outside, and one even appeared on her windowsill.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis E. and Eva I. Morrow; her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia I. and Donald F. Seibold; her daughter, Rhonda Lynn Griffin; and her grandson, Matthew R. L. Potter.
She is survived by her daughters: Leslie (Chad) Russell of Raytown, Missouri; Ginger Griffin of Raytown, Missouri; and Brandy (Richard) Rendon of Raytown, Missouri.
Linda is also survived by her grandchildren: Amanda (Antonio) Clark of Raytown, Missouri; Christian Griffin of Raytown, Missouri; Bridget Elam of Kansas City, Missouri; Katie (Cody) Munkers of Independence, Missouri; Robert (Kasi) Reiff of Blue Springs, Missouri; Jason Collins and Julie Diaz of North Kansas City, Missouri; Kaylynn Rendon and Chris Dickerson of Raytown, Missouri; Richie Rendon of Raytown, Missouri; and Archer, whom Granny lovingly called her “little Archie.”
She leaves behind ten great-grandchildren: Eva and Leonidas Clark of Raytown; Hunter, Charlie Kay, Tatum, and Wyatt Elam of Kansas; Bentley and Ellie Reiff of Blue Springs; and Ezran S. Dickerson of Raytown.
Special mentions include Cathy Most and Patty Swindle; cousins Jim and Patti Morrow; and nieces and nephews Debi (Kenny) Richardson, Paula (Blaine) Prentice, and Donna Seibold.
A mother is often the heart of our most cherished memories, and Mom will be deeply missed in all the milestones yet to come.
