Luella Baskin-Shurn was born on March 04, 1934, to Reverend Goldman Richard and Mariah Richard. Her beloved stepmother was Emma Richard.

Luella Baskin-Shurn accepted Christ at an early age. She took college courses through Penn Valley Community College. She retired as a Labor Leader with the City of Kansas City, Missouri. Her most devoted leadership role was Church Mother.

She was a member of Makeover Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Robert Nesbitt and First Lady Mary Nesbitt.

Luella Baskin-Shurn was joined in matrimony to Lonzio Baskin, Vance McIntosh, and Willie Shurn.

Luella Baskin-Shurn's favorite song was “Precious Lord.” She enjoyed puzzles, watching wrestling and cowboy movies, cooking, reading the Bible, and participating on the prayer line. She was intelligent, delightfully witty, filled with great humor, strong-willed, family-oriented, and a warrior for Christ.

Luella Baskin-Shurn departed this life on April 07, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Shurn; her parents, Reverend Goldman Richard and Mariah Richard; her siblings, Mary, Corine, Willie Mae, Tesla, Lucille, Dorothy Jean, Carry, Jake, Christopher, Albert, Sammy Joe, Clarence, George, and Roosevelt; her daughter, Karen Williams; her grandson, Ricky Williams Jr.; her great-granddaughters, Rashenna Jackson and Journee Williams.

Luella Baskin-Shurn leaves to cherish her memories her children: daughters Catherine, Lula, Vera, Bridgette, and Bernita; son Percy; siblings James Richard, Mathew Richard, Ellis Lee Richard, Harry Lee Richard, Morris Lee Richard, Larry Lee Richard, Doretha Richard, and Lenora Richard; 22 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; special niece, Dorothy Mae Alexander; her sister-friend, Mother Leola White. and a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A Funeral service will be held Saturday April 25, 2026 at St. Luke Memorial 3100 E. 31st St. KCMO 64128. The Visitation will begin at 8:30am-10:30am. The service will follow at 10:30 am.
