Marie Louise
Smith
October 6, 1949 – February 21, 2026
Marie Louise Smith “Meme” was born to and preceded in death by her parents Homer, Jr. and Delores Ione Norton, in Lansing, Michigan and preceded in death by her brother, Jeffery Lee Norton.
Marie is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Sandra Carol and Kevin Davis of Marshall, Michigan; her two daughters, Tamie Jo Stewart and Jody Dee Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri; her niece Tracy Renee Shick; her nephew Troy Duane Shick; her grandson and his wife, Kameron Russell and Stephanie Victoria Hind, her granddaughter, Samantha Marie Stewart and her four great grandchildren, Hana, Aurora, Leo and Vincent Hind.
Marie was raised in Potterville, Michigan surrounded by a loving family and her dearest friends. After her High School graduation, Marie married and became a “Mama” at the tender age of twenty with the birth of her firstborn daughter, Tamie Jo. A few years later her youngest daughter was born, Jody Dee and life became an adventure. High on life, Marie loved the outdoors, a good song and lots of room to run. Very much a free spirit, she was fond of dancing and loved being surrounded by like-minded people whose only goal in life was to treat others how she wanted to be treated and reciprocate love given. Always a smile, a laugh or just a goofy gesture; she always brought joy and hope to those she loved.
Marie never knew a stranger and spent most of her adult life serving others in the restaurant industry. A meager earning: but one of which she was proud of, only because of the people she met, the many tales told and the endless ears bent to hear her stories.
She was known to those that held her closest as “Meme”. “Meme” was the “Jovial Jester” or “Partner in Crime” and always in cahoots with her Grandson, Kameron. Their bond was beautiful and always filled with science fiction-based theories, conspiracies and stories. “Meme” was inspired by her granddaughter, Samantha and often spoke of watching her grow into a beautiful young woman. “Meme” was proud of Samantha’s ability and her choice to live a life of public service as a Paramedic. The question was always, “have you delivered any babies yet?”
“Meme” was blessed to know her four great children and spend her later years seeking every smile, hug, kiss, first word and first steps of her babies. Grandma “Meme” is memorialized for them through endless photographs and movie clips that capture emotions and experiences that words alone cannot hold.
“Meme” leaves this world knowing the love and support of her daughters. The heartbreak is real; the tears have fallen but our souls are mending. Until we see you again, our sweet
“Meme”…. all of our love, safe journey and Godspeed.
