Marquita Marie Douglas

Marquita Marie Douglas was born on January 11, 1960, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Tina Fites.  She was the oldest of four.

Marquita accepted Christ at an early age and attended Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church.  She attended school in the Kansas City Missouri School District and graduated from Paseo High School in 1978.  She became a Medical Assistant at an early age and in 1996 went back to school to become a Certified Medical Assistant from Concorde Career College.

After years of working in the hospitality and healthcare fields, she became the director of a home health agency and continued to work until her health no longer allowed her to do so.

Marquita always wanted to be a blessing to others. She became a Foster Mother in the 90's, to troubled teenage girls.  She held a seat in several auxiliaries at church, including Young Women's Mission, Sewing Guild, and the choir.  She later joined Ebenezer     Missionary Baptist Church and continued to be a blessing there.

Marquita loved sewing, and being a grandmother, affectionately called, “Nena”.  Often she would create matching outfits and blankets for her grands and one of a kind ensembles for herself.  You would almost never see her without a pair of four inch heels, even a cane couldn't keep her from wearing them.

Marquita ascended into glory on February 8, 2023. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Lillie Mae Warfield; two stepsisters, and two stepbrothers.

Marquita leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Martine Gurley; mother Tina Fites; Goddaughter, Toni Molden (Harold); brothers, Robert L. Smith II (Angelita), and Michael Dawson; sister, Roberta Dever (Ronald); three granddaughters, Aalexsys "Sweetie" Gurley, Zaliya "Li Li" Gurley and Trinity "Baby Girl" Ware; nephew, Robert L. Smith III, and a host of aunts, cousins, other family, and friends.
