Mr. Steven Dewaine Byrd Sr.

Steven Dewaine Byrd, Sr was born on September 10, 1964, in Kansas City, Kansas to James Mitchell and Roberta Elaine Byrd. 

Steve was educated in the Kansas City Public School District. He graduated from East High School. Mr. Byrd worked very hard and was a great provider for his family. 

He worked for Victory Packaging as a commercial driver. He had the greatest knowledge of the roads, highways and major interstates across the country. 

Steve accomplished making a great network of loyal co-workers, friends and family. 

At a young age, Steve married his high school sweetheart Janet Byrd and had two children. He remarried later to his lifelong partner, Cheryl McDonald and also had two children. 

Mr. Byrd enjoyed cooking, fishing, sports, and many social activities. He found much joy hosting gatherings along with his wife, Cheryl. Among his favorite activities was gathering with loved ones to watch his beloved Kansas City Chiefs compete. 

In his youth he was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, accomplished athlete in track and field and football. Of all the sports he played, he was most proud of his career pursuits in boxing within the Kansas City Golden Gloves. 

Steve Byrd departed this life for his heavenly home on Friday, March 4, 2022. His mother, Roberta Byrd Starr, brother, James Mumford; stepfather, Buddy Powell and love of his life, wife, Cheryl McDonald preceded him in death. 

Steve leaves to cherish his memory, children, Gina McDonald, Steven Byrd Jr., Montray Ross, and Erica Byrd; father, James Mitchell; siblings, David “DJ” Starr (Leah), Dexter Starr (Roberta), Roy Starr (Tammy), Charles Ray (Mary), Milton Starr, Roscoe Starr, Decker Starr Jr., James Bell (Michelle) Lorraine Starr, Sharon Starr, Helen Starr, and Ja’Nice  Mitchell, and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
