Nella Mae Verge was born on March 11, 1954 to Lillie Mae Verge and Clemon Newborn in Hope, Arkansas. She moved to Kansas City with her mother and siblings in 1961.
Nella Mae graduated from Manuel High School in Kansas City, MO in 1971, where she earned her high school diploma.
Nella worked for several years as a home health aide until she became disabled.
Nella enjoyed going to wrestling matches back in the day, playing dominoes and spades and had great love for Old school music and really loved the Blues.
Nella Mae had 4 children. Three sons and one daughter.
Nella Mae and Howard Ray Walden (Spanky) got married on February 12, 2009 in Kansas City, Mo.
Nella's mother: Lillie Mae Verge, husband: Howard Walden, three sons: Derrick Verge, Antonio Verge, and Thomas Smith, preceded her in death. Nella was also preceded in death by four sisters: Shirley Chambers (Willie Gene), Teresa Newborn, Berthine Lewis (Bill), Ruby Joyce King, and two brothers: Willie V. Bowles. ,and Jimmy Verge.
Nella leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter LaChelle Smith Sugar Creek, MO, two grandchildren: Troy Smith-St. Joseph, MO(LaRissa) and Keneesha Smith- Kansas City, Mo and seven great-grandsons and five great-granddaughters. Two sisters: Cynthia Verge-Perez Raytown,MO and Hazel Verge(John) Raytown, Mo.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday December 3, 2025, visitation will be held from 2pm - 3pm with services beginning at 3pm at Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC 2800 East 18th St. Kansas City, Mo 64127.
