Ms. Norma Masterson was born on April 5, 1950, in Kansas City, Missouri, to the union of Ralph Masterson Sr. and Elaine Masterson. Norma grew up spending most of her childhood in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended Paseo High School in Kansas City and graduated in 1968 with honors. After high school, Norma attended Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, where she received her bachelor's degree in Business. She then took up a job with TWA Airlines as an engineer. She was the first black woman with her credentials to work at TWA Airlines in her role. Norma later began to work for AT&T, where she had a 25+ year career helping the company open and maintain branches in Birmingham, Alabama, Atlanta, Georgia, and St. Louis, Missouri. She loved to travel to see new places, spend time with friends, grow her spiritual relationship, dive into her family's ancestry, and celebrate her loved ones amongst her many hobbies. Norma departed this earthly life on Friday, July 17, 2026. She was preceded in death by: her father, Ralph Masterson Sr.; her mother, Elaine Masterson; her brothers, Leon Masterson, Clarence Masterson, and Ivan Masterson, as well as her sister, Cordelia Masterson. She leaves to mourn her precious memories: her son, Matthew Jamal Masterson, her brother superior Ralph Masterson Jr., her first cousin Dedra Masterson-Barnes, her grandchildren, Sayerah Kennedy, Christopher Dotson-Masterson, Mariah Masterson, Madison Johnson-Masterson, Jade Masterson, Bianca Masterson, and Sterling Masterson, her nephews CJ Masterson, Ivan Masterson II, Ralph Masterson III, Daniel Masterson, and Carlos Masterson and her nieces Zuri Masterson, Monica Masterson, and Malkia Fieder-Hayes as well as other cousins, family members and a host of close friends who will all miss her dearly and greatly.
A service will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Golden Gate Funeral &Cremation LLC, 2800 East 18th Street, KCMO. There will not be a wake . The service will begin promptly at 3:00 pm.
