Pamela Sue
Hopkins
March 27, 1949 – May 3, 2026
With hearts full of gratitude and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Pamela Sue Hopkins (née Markee), whose soul took flight, surrounded by her loving daughters on May 3, 2026.
A woman of extraordinary kindness, courage, and compassion, she lit up the world with her beautiful smile. She was a devoted wife to the late Delbert, her husband of 56 years; a generous mother of daughters Jill Hopkins, Debbie Alden and son-in- law Mark Alden; a doting grandmother to Andrew Lewick and a beloved friend to everyone that she encountered.
Born March 27,1949, Pam grew up in Towanda, Kansas where she attended high-school and established friendships that lasted a lifetime. After high-school she attended dental assistant school in Wichita, Kansas. She married Delbert, the love of her life, in 1969 and moved to Newton, Kansas to raise their two children. Her work life began in dentistry and finished as a receptionist with her retirement from First Bank in Newton. Shortly after, she and Delbert moved to Kansas City to be closer to family.
Pam prided herself on raising her children and grandchildren to be good people. She made her family the priority ensuring she attended any event she could to support them. Whether volunteering at school, a sporting event, or school function, she was present.
She was an avid bird watcher and loved spending her mornings watching her hummingbirds and talking with the cardinal outside the window, knowing her beloved Delbert was watching over. Whether painting, needle-pointing, wood carving, or making other works of “art”, she loved filling her days crafting. She was a ruthless game player and could trap us for hours playing board games or doing puzzles. She had a passion for gardening, and lived for the first day in spring when she could plant her flowers (never before Mother’s Day!).
Pam adored all children and had countless “grand-children” who equally adored her.
In her husband’s final years, Pam was a selfless caregiver which allowed her to make treasured friendships with others in the same position and showed how brave she truly was. She cherished all her friends, both old and new, and considered them family.
Pam was preceded in death by parents, Arleigh Markee and Betty Havercroft (Keplar), and brother Terry Markee. She is survived by her children, grandchild and brother, Gary Markee, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
