IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard
Parker
November 19, 1959 – February 8, 2026
Richard Vernon Parker Sr. was born on November 19, 1959, in Robinsonville, Mississippi, and passed away on February 8, 2026, in Kansas City, MO, at age 66.
As a child, Richard attended Traveler’s Rest Missionary Baptist Church, where his parents, Pastor Emeritus Lee E. Burns Jr. and Annie M. Burns, served as Pastor and First Lady. He attended Westport High School in the Kansas City, MO, School District. After high school, Richard joined the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. Over the years, he held various jobs; most notably, he advanced to supervisor within the Kansas City, MO, Water Department.
On October 13, 1990, Richard married Anita Pearl Patterson, whom he affectionately called “Lover.” Their marriage lasted 35 years until Richard’s passing. The couple successfully blended their families, raising children who have become entrepreneurs and professionals across several fields. Above all, Richard cherished his 10+ grandchildren, whom he considered his greatest legacy.
In 1993, Richard ventured into entrepreneurship by founding Parker Janitorial Service, which he operated alongside Anita. Their business flourished for many years, providing employment opportunities to dozens of people.
Richard was a “man of many hats.” He loved nice clothes and topped off every outfit with a Kangol or stylish brimmed hat. Known for his zest for life, he enjoyed music, dancing, playing spades, barbequing, and spending time with family and friends. His loyalty was unwavering, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pastor and Mrs. Lee and Annie Burns; his brother, Florentino Burns; his mother-in-law, Lester A. Patterson; his maternal grandparents, C.P. and Margaret Parker; his paternal grandmother, Jessie Lee Pearson; and his daughter, Shaunta Parker.
